Author: Lindsey Kelk

‘There’s nothing worse than the last day of holiday. Oh wait, there is. When what should have been a proposal turns into a break, Liv and Adam find themselves on opposite sides of the life they had mapped out.
Friends and family all think they’re crazy; Liv throws herself into work – animals are so much simpler than humans – and Adam tries to get himself out of the hole he’s dug. But as the short break becomes a chasm, can they find a way back to each other?
Most importantly, do they want to?’
We Were on a Break is the brand new stand alone novel from Lindsey Kelk, author of the quite frankly awesome I Heart… series. Today I am bringing you my review, but last week I also attended an event where I had the chance to see her in person again, which I will be posting about tomorrow, so come back then to make sure you don’t miss out!
This novel centres around the lives of Liv and Adam, a couple from a small village who are set to take the next step in their relationship. However one false move (literally) and that all seems to come crumbling down. Unlike Lindsey’s other books, this is written from both Liv and Adam’s perspectives, so throughout you get both sides of the story. I personally thought this was great as it created more opportunies for me to full on belly laugh (always interesting when out in public…). Put it this way, there is an incident with some car keys, but you’ll have to read it to find out what I mean!
As well as Liv and Adam’s story with each other, readers also get to know other aspects of both their lives, be it careers, family and friends. The more details that came to light, the more you felt they were perfect for each other. Liv is a vet in a family business, torn between doing things her way or her families way. Adam dropped out of Law school to become a carpenter and is trying to prove to himself and those around him (including his uber successful and pretty horrible brother) that he has what it takes. All this personally left me rooting for their happy ending. For fans of Lindsey’s last stand alone novel Always the Bridesmaid (review here) you also get a little update on Maddie and Tom… (!)
Overall I couldn’t put this book down, the characters could easily have been people in my own life, and I loved the fact that I was able to get an insight in to the mind of one of Lindsey’s male leads as well as female.
We Were on A Break is available in all formats both in stores and online
